Waterfront Modern Mediterranean: A Private Lakefront Custom Home in Kansas City
On an expansive lake with its own beach, the Waterfront Modern Mediterranean is located in the Kansas City area, flanked by forest and a natural rock outcropping. Through creative home architecture and landscape architecture, NSPJ ensured spectacular views in all directions.
Inside the custom home, an open floor plan with a light color scheme looks traditional, providing outdoor views through oversized windows and doors. A staircase leads to a tower room to take in the best possible vistas.
The young and active family who resides here enjoys a two-story great room, expansive kitchen with lakeside breakfast bay, and a two-story garden room that provides daylight in four seasons, while serving as an additional living and dining space for overflow entertaining areas.
Cabin on the Lake in Lake Lotawana
After razing the existing modest structure, the client requested a weekend retreat with incredible lake views and spacious living areas despite a narrow plot of land. Our residential architects rose to the challenge with expansive windows, a signature lake cabin fireplace, and an open concept floor plan and primary suite on the upper level to maximize lake vistas.
Both the living room and the primary bedroom open onto a deck that overlooks Lake Lotawana. The lower level includes a second living space that connects to a screened porch and patio along the lake, plus three bedrooms and a storage area for all the necessary water toys and accessories that weekend cabins require.
A Custom Home with a Lake Lotawana View
Consolidating two lots, our architecture firm designed a new custom home situated as closely to the lakefront as possible. The landscape architecture team ensured a downward slope toward the shore to maintain views without compromising the stateliness of the house.
Inside the bright and airy home, the owners enjoy a warm, inviting space with lake views straight through large, operable glass doors. Outside, two large patios and an outdoor living area add entertaining options.
Embracing Life at the Lake with Ozarks Luxurious Outdoors
Although NSPJ provided the residential architecture work for this family getaway, the landscape architecture element proved to be the highlight.
A steeply sloped backyard descending toward the lake became a luxurious resort that maximizes the space without compromising lake access. A series of terraces creates zoned outdoor living, which flows back into the custom home’s indoor spaces to foster stunning lake views.
A well-placed retaining wall supports a pool with a slide and a hot tub, while an enclosed bar area offers entertaining options that embrace nature and modern amenities, like a built-in grill and pizza oven.
Lakeside LDV Ranch: Two Custom Homes on One Property
Located in rural Cass County, LDV Ranch includes both a large, primary residence and a rustic lakeside boathouse with cottage home.
Directly on the edge of the man-made 56-acre lake, the boathouse and cottage offer a quaint getaway, plus storage for lake day fun on the sandy beach. Inside the cottage, two bedrooms, one bathroom, and an open concept living space and kitchen offer lakefront views. Suitable for year-round living, the cottage is heated and cooled.
The main custom home that our architecture firm designed stands at the end of a winding road on the 834-acre property enhanced with landscape features. Despite its Mediterranean style, it suits the ranch location thanks to its beamed ceiling and natural stone accents.
Just as the boathouse and cottage foster connection with nature, so, too, does this primary house. A grand entry offers expansive lake views, while windowed doors open to the outdoors at the back.
A theater room, spa, golf simulator, terraced lawn games space, and covered terrace with an outdoor kitchen make this home the perfect gathering place for the family.
