Our Highlights, Joys, Successes, and What We are Grateful for as NSPJ Looks Forward to 2023
This past year was one of major celebrations and triumphs for NSPJ Architects. We have much to reflect on with great joy. And as we move forward to 2023, these success stories will fuel us as we continue our focus on design excellence and service.
Celebrating Our 60th Anniversary
In April 2022, NSPJ Architects celebrated our 60th anniversary with our board of directors, clients, and partners at The Midland Theater. Everyone shared adventures and plenty of laughter, while enjoying refreshments courtesy of Brancatos Catering and Christopher Elbow Chocolates. DJ Ashton Martin & The Collective provided the soundtrack to the festivities. Although COVID pushed our celebration out by a year, we didn’t let that put a damper on the evening.
Architecture Firm Videos Showcased
A year in the making, seven videos produced with the assistance of 8183 Productions and Judge Simpson played at our 60th anniversary party. These videos capture the firm’s history, highlight our current milestones, and outline our approach for future years. They tell the story of NSPJ and the responsibility we hold as we embrace and continue our legacy.
Multifamily Architecture Capstone Award
This past spring, NSPJ celebrated the 44 Washington and The Villas at 44 Washington earning a 2022 Capstone Award from Kansas City Business Journal. Nestled in the St. Luke’s/Westport area of Kansas City, 44 Washington is a multifamily podium project consisting of 188 apartment units atop a structured parking garage. Outstanding Community Impact and/or Revitalization Award from CSI Kansas City
The 44 Washington projects continued to earn our architectural firm major recognition throughout the year. The Villas at 44 Washington, a Block Multifamily Group project, earned us the “Outstanding Community Impact and/or Revitalization” award from Construction Specifications Institute Kansas City.
The Village at Mission’s New Community Welcome
NSPJ Architects worked to relocate the reception area and create a welcoming community hub for The Village at Mission. The project involved adding bright shaker paneling, relocating a non-functional fireplace, and brightening up the room with light ceramic tile and a bold carpet inlay. The project completion was announced in October 2022.
Key Promotions at NSPJ Architects
In November 2022, Todd Hicks was promoted to Vice President/Associate Principal Architect and was elected to the firm’s Board of Directors.
This past year, we were fortunate to have eight amazing student interns, including two who became full-time employees after graduating in the spring.
Construction Wraps Up on the Riverfront
In December 2022, construction finished at CORE | Modern Apartments, a multifamily architecture project within walking distance of Berkley Riverfront Park. It is the newest addition to luxury living in the heart of the Kansas City metropolitan area.
Commissioned, owned, and operated by North Point Management, CORE | Modern Apartments employed our expertise in architecture and landscape architecture. The new residence boasts 355 units in two four-story buildings, including six penthouses at 1,400 square feet each.
Completion of Stunning Residential Architecture Projects
Our residential architects celebrated the completion of three major projects – among many, many more. Two were in the West Plaza area of Kansas City. The first is a custom home meant to transition our clients into a contemporary, minimalist lifestyle.
The second project in the West Plaza is a series of homes for a visionary developer looking to bring a new style of housing to their company portfolio and to Kansas Citians. This landmark project took four years to complete – and was worth every moment.
Finally, our ladscape architects completed the LDV Ranch project by designing a 384-acre outdoor space unlike anything else in the area. The landscape architectural design minimized impact to existing trees and emphasized stunning landscape views.
