Nestled on land overlooking the Kansas River, this Woodland Manor transforms a former cattle grazing site into a retreat. The design is deeply rooted in its setting, both visually and functionally responding to the client’s desire for a home that fully engages the landscape.
The residence reflects a modern English manor influence, with gabled masses aligned to echo the surrounding topography. This composition establishes a classical yet contemporary style that sits naturally within the woodland.
At the heart of the home, a central gallery entry guides movement through the living spaces and extends to the primary suite. The lower-level functions as a guest-centered retreat, with generous entertaining areas that flow into a courtyard. A secluded indoor spa completes the experience, providing guests with a serene escape and direct access to the courtyard.
Throughout the design process, a key goal was to incorporate walkout access from every primary living space. While architecturally challenging, this ultimately became a defining feature of the home, ensuring that the surrounding landscape remains an ever-present element of daily life.
