Saddlewood Apartments, recently purchased by Saddlewood Associates LLC, is an existing multifamily development in Olathe, Kansas. NSPJ Architects has been commissioned to create a master plan and design an extension for a new class-A, multifamily development, consisting of 444 dwelling units on approximately 17 acres of vacant land. However, unlike the existing apartments, this new contemporary-style development is designed to take advantage of an enclosed corridor, continuous unit design to help provide a comfortable, convenient, and secure environment for residents.
The three and four-story buildings provide for efficient planning to help maximize available outdoor greenspace. The one and two bedroom units will boast masonry countertops and stainless steel appliances. The contemporary architectural design will include durable materials such as stone veneers and cement fiber board siding, large windows, and composition shingle roofs with standing seam metal accents. While providing convenient and thoughtful connections to the surrounding community, the new design had to seamlessly assimilate with the existing development, and be integrated around a web of existing utilities.
The site will be lushly landscaped and include open play fields, a walking trail with intermittent seating opportunities, dog park, and a luxurious new clubhouse with a pool amenity area as part of Phase II. Parking has been provided beyond minimum requirements to ensure ample opportunities for residents. Additionally, the parking will consist primarily of surface parking, but each building will host tuck under garages, connected directly to the buildings central corridor for safe and convenient access.
Phase I and II will be complete in 2021. Phase III and IV will be absorbed as the market demands.
