This refined cottage in Prairie Village, Kansas, started out as a remodel of a home whose family loved its character. But the owners realized the needs of their growing family and busy life required a larger living footprint. They decided to tear down the existing structure and build a new custom design, expanding from about 2,500 square feet to 5,000 square feet.
The design balances a natural, rustic feel with modern elements. Timber accents on the roof brackets and porch entry, as well as the shingle siding and stone accents, show off the rustic nature of the home. The NanaWall, an air-tight pocket door at the back of the home, gives the home the ability to expand its interior space to the exterior, marrying traditional design with a modern glass element. The new flow of the home provides options for seamless entertaining and busy family life.
