Prairie Village, Kansas
With an emphasis on elongated windows that serve to maximize views, strong horizontal lines and large overhangs all offer a Prairie Village Modern distinction amongst its neighbors. The “ribbon” effect in the lines of windows, as well as the crisp detailing and stepped, shallow-pitched roofs contribute to a relatable scale adapted from International Style and Prairie Modern influences.
The clients sought a complete stylistic departure from their former traditionally styled houses and wanted to showcase the outstanding views of the golf course located behind their new home. To achieve a convertible indoor/outdoor dining and entertainment area, one wall of their dining room is made up of large sliding window “walls” so that they may convert the space as needed. Motorized screens also enhance the joy of the home by allowing one to enjoy fresh air without unwanted guests flying inside.
Clean detailing at the interior for cabinetry and trim ensures this residence will stay effortlessly modern. Drawing interest from their raw beauty, wood, stone, and other materials both inside and out remain in their natural finishes with no added coloring for an organic feel.
