It all began with the client’s childhood memory of a beautiful home with a large front porch. That was the inspiration behind this Modern Farmhouse in north Kansas City. Their vision was to create their custom dream home with plenty of space for multi-generations of their family to gather.
The home sits on several acres of land in the middle of the city. One challenge was to ensure the great room on the first floor could walk about to exterior space, as well as a side-entry door from the lower level. Those goals determined how the residence was situated on the lot.
In addition, the residence features a two-story great room with an overlooking loft living area, two offices with a Murphy door in one of them, a butler’s kitchen for entertaining and plenty of space to expand. The clients also wanted their open kitchen and great room to not be visible from the front entrance, so the architect created a screened entry.
