Architecture, Landscape Architecture

The landscape architecture design focused on connecting the client’s multiple wishes on the 384-acre site. The entry experience was deliberately planned to minimize the impact on the existing trees and land while also emphasizing the views. An extensive amount of rock found on the site was repurposed for assorted walls and structures over the land. To enhance privacy, hundreds of trees were planted throughout the property to replace those removed. Continuity of design is maintained throughout the estate.

Surrounding the 56-arce lake is a residence, a cottage, a boathouse, and an event barn. The design of the main house was to ensure privacy and to optimize the perspective of the lake. The home has a Mediterranean feel and emphasizes the indoor-outdoor entertainment philosophy of the ranch. It is the central gathering spot for the ultimate private retreat.

The clients desired to have an outdoor space unlike anything in the Kansas City area. Fire bowls on columns frame the view of the lake and a long central linear fire pit creates a focal point for both day and nighttime use. A large roof covered terrace includes a grill bar, drink troughs, a pizza oven, a TV area, and an OXYR grill which allows everyone to make their own stir fry. The terraced outside areas also include a slide, ping pong, horseshoes, bocce, and plenty of lawn space for games. Along the lake, a wine patio allows the homeowners to enjoy a drink at sunset. Additionally, just below the lake surface, a man-made sand area and beach allow easy access for swimming and summer fun.
