Colonnade Courtyard Addition

Located in Leawood, Kan., the Colonnade Courtyard addition expands current outdoor space into a retreat, enhancing the home’s living experience while integrating with the existing architecture. 

The design transforms a small pool area into a larger, resort-style pool, reimagining multiple levels of deck space into fully covered outdoor rooms that can be enjoyed year-round.  

One challenge to the project was responding to complex site constraints. Existing easements significantly influenced the layout, requiring creative adjustments to pool placement and the colonnade. Rather than a typical right-angle configuration, the design incorporates a curved connecting structure. 

The remodel of the deck added large double doors that open from the great room directly to the outdoor oasis, allowing the home to flow naturally into the exterior living areas. A loggia and textured finishes recreate the ambiance of a Tuscan courtyard. 

New amenities elevate functionality and entertainment opportunities. A swim-up bar anchors the pool as a social hub, complemented by an outdoor kitchen with a grill and sink designed for hosting and everyday use. A new sports court offers additional recreational options.
