TownePlace Suites at Briarcliff Hilltop

TownePlace Suites at Briarcliff Hilltop is a 94 guestroom extended-stay hotel located in Kansas City, Missouri. The design is in response to the existing style and architecture in the Briarcliff area, and modified the Marriott design to fit well within its surroundings. We worked with the client as well as Marriott directly to provide an aesthetic that pleased all parties involved.

The site held multiple constraints for our design because of size, elevation and ground material. Working closely with our civil engineering and structural engineering teams, we had to build up retaining walls to create a sturdy and level pad for our building to sit, essentially, atop a small cliff. In addition, we had to create a connection from our parking lot to the hotel next door (also an NSPJ/Capital Management Inc. project) so the adjacent hotel could use our lot as overflow event parking.

Because of the creativity of the client, we were given the opportunity to design parts of the public spaces both interior and exterior. The back patio boasts 2 fire pits and a grilling area with views of the KC skyline in the distance. Inside, we were able to provide custom millwork designs for the check in desks and feature wall by the elevators.

The project broke ground in Fall 2016 and was completed Spring 2018.
